The proper way of blowing up an air mattress

An air mattress is an alternative type of bed; it is a portable king size mattress that you can blow up and deflate, and fold up and store in a convenient place in your home. If you are a person who loves to go camping, or likes to have sleepover parties, then an air mattress will be ideal for you. You will want to make sure that you have blown it up properly so that you can have a good night’s rest. Here are some steps to assist you with this.

There are some air mattresses that come equipped with an internal electric pump. You will need to check if your mattress has one of these. If it doesn’t you will need to go out and purchase a manual pump or an electric pump that you can attach to the mattress in order to inflate it. No matter what anyone tells you, do not waste your time trying to use the air from your lungs to blow it up, it will take all year.

There are a number of places that you can purchase a manual or an electric pump. Such places include a camping shop, or a sporting shop, sometimes you will find them in regular shops.

Before you buy it make sure that the nozzle on the pump will fit onto your mattress. The instructions that came with the mattress will tell you what size the nozzle is.

Once you have bought the pump you will need to unroll your mattress carefully, and make sure that it is placed on a flat surface with no debris underneath it. If there is anything sharp lying around it can puncture the mattress, which means that you will not be able to blow it up.

Locate the air valve, you will generally find this on one of the corners of the mattress. Uncap it and then connect your pump to the valve. Ensure that you have connected it properly, if not you will only get partial air going in which will cause it to take a long time to blow up.

If you purchased an electric pump plug it in and turn it on once it is connected to the mattress. Once this is done it will begin the inflation process. Most electrical pumps will let you know when the product has been blown up properly. If not you will know by the way the mattress feels that it is blown up.

If you did not get an electric pump and got a manual one the process is slightly different, as well as slightly more difficult. Again connect the nozzle to the valve, and make sure that the pump is lying on a flat surface. The pump allows you to position your foot onto it so that you can pump up and down to put air into the mattress. Again you will know that the mattress is blown up by the way that it feels.
