A class action lawsuit is whereby a group of people comprising of individual plaintiffs band together as a single party so as to pursue litigation against one defendant. This type of lawsuit is quite common in the United States of America. It has proven to be quite beneficial as it eliminates the occurrence of jammed courtrooms whereby single plaintiffs are trying to litigate the same issue. However, many of these class action lawsuits result to a number of people not even knowing that they are party to a particular case. This then results to the oblivious individuals missing out on the compensation that they could have received. There are several ways that one can establish whether they are party to a class action lawsuit. Once you find this out, you can pursue the money owed to you. So how does one go about finding these past class action lawsuits so that they may receive the money that is owed to them?

.You would have to determine whether or not you are a plaintiff to a class action lawsuit. These lawsuits tend to be highly publicized by the local media. In addition to this, the law firms that are heading class actions seek to find the plaintiffs through mediums such as newspapers, television and even radio. In some cases, one may even be contacted by the law firm using direct mail.

.Once you have determined that you are party to a class action lawsuit, you would have to identify yourself. One can do this by getting in touch with the specific law firm that has published a lawsuit notice. If you have already received a notification of this in your mail, then you are already recognized as party to the lawsuit. This would mean all you would have to do is follow the directions that have been sent to you by the law firm.

.Next you would have to follow up so that you can collect on the share allocated to you in the settlement or by the verdict. Typically the procedure in most cases is that they will send you your share in the mail. However, if you have already established yourself as party to a class action lawsuit and haven’t received your compensation it would mean it has remained unclaimed. In this instance, you would have to locate the lawsuit and get information about what the settlement or the verdict comprised of. This can be done through the law firm that was enlisted to represent the members of that class that you belong to.

.One can also visit a number of websites that keep track of any class action lawsuits both past and present. At the website, you would have to identify the category of the class action lawsuit that you belong to. The advantage of these websites is that they break down the legal jargon into layman’s terms so that you may be able to understand the different categories. You also have the option of searching the archives.
